States Most Excited for Taylor Swift’s “The Tortured Poets Department"

Are you ready for it? Pardon the early pun, but we’ll have anything but a cruel summer in 2024 thanks to the upcoming release of Taylor Swift’s latest album, The Tortured Poets Department, on April 19.

Swift originally announced the album’s release while accepting an award at the 2024 Grammy’s, and Swifties from all across the country (including us, if we’re being honest) have been abuzz waiting patiently for its release. The pop icon is still in the midst of her Eras tour that has taken the world by storm, and she’ll be adding another chapter to her story when her 15^th album releases in less than a month.

It's impossible to go anywhere and not hear mentions of Swift, who in addition to the Eras tour was a mainstay in the NFL world thanks to her highly publicized relationship with Super Bowl champion Travis Kelce of the Kansas City Chiefs. Does Missouri love Swift as much as, say, Pennsylvania, her hometown? What about Tennessee, where she moved as a teenager and began her rise to fame as a young country music star?

The latest scoop in entertainment news reveals Taylor Swift's highly anticipated album release date, sending fans into a frenzy of excitement.

We decided to find out. We looked up Google Trends by state to see which areas of the country are looking up Swift’s new album. Here are the results.

Maine Takes The Top Spot

It’s not surprising that Swift has never officially performed in Maine—Portland, its biggest city, has fewer residents than most Swift concerts—but no other state is as excited about the drop of the new album. Maybe Swift really left an impression on the state when she filmed the music video for Mine all the way back in 2014.

The Northeast as a whole seems to have T-Swift fever. Other states in the top 10 included Massachusetts (second), Washington, D.C. (third), Vermont, (fourth), Connecticut (fifth), and Pennsylvania (eighth), the last of which isn’t all that surprising considering it’s where Swift was born in 1989. Swift performed the Eras tour in Pennsylvania, Massachusetts, and New Jersey (26^th on the list) in May 2023.

Missouri And Kansas Aren’t Done With Taylor Just Yet

Though they’re probably bigger fans of two-time Super Bowl champion Travis Kelce, it was still promising to see Missouri and Kansas still excited for Swift’s newest album. Missouri, where the Chiefs play their home games, ranked 12^th on the list. Kansas was even better, ranking sixth among all U.S. states and by far the top state in the Midwest. Swift made a stop in Kansas City for the Eras tour in July 2023 and then, of course, traveled to a handful of games during the Chiefs’ Super Bowl run.

If you’re tired of seeing or hearing about Taylor Swift, might we suggest a trip to the Northwest? Wyoming ranked dead last on our list of states most excited about the upcoming album. Tennessee Trumps California On The List

Swift is now one of Hollywood’s biggest stars, and though she has homes in multiple states, we’re guessing she spends most of her time in California. Still, she got her big break in Tennessee, and those hometown folks seem to be just as excited (if not more) for the upcoming album. Tennessee ranked 30^th on the list—maybe because she doesn’t do strictly country music anymore?—much higher than California, which nearly finished at the bottom of the list (44^th). We’re a bit surprised by California’s showing after Swift performed six times in L.A. on her Eras tour. Maybe it simply didn’t leave a big enough impression—or there are too many superstars to go around in Hollywood for her to make a big enough dent.
