Mobile Sports Betting In Louisiana Set To Go Live On Friday

Let the good times roll — mobile sports betting in Louisiana will soon be legal.
Mobile platforms licensed by the state will go live at 8 a.m. CT Friday, after the Louisiana Gaming and Control Board announced the launch of the practice on Wednesday. Online sports betting will be legal in the parishes (counties, in Louisiana parlance) that approved sports betting in a 2021 referendum—a measure which passed in all but a handful of parishes, including the state’s major metro areas of New Orleans, Shreveport and Baton Rouge.
“Currently eligible sports wagering operators will be approved to accept mobile bets as early as 8 a.m. Friday morning,” Gaming and Control Board chairman Ronnie Johns said in a statement released Wednesday morning. “The remaining mobile sports wagering operators are in the process of meeting statutory and regulatory requirements and will be approved once those requirements are met.”

LA Sports Betting ‘going to be huge’
While the state Gaming and Control Board did not specify which operators had been approved to go live Friday morning, the Daily Advertiser newspaper of Lafayette reported that major online players such as FanDuel Louisiana, DraftKings LA, Caesars LA and BetMGM Louisiana were expected to be part of the launch.
The launch is likely to be a transformative moment for sports betting in Louisiana, which allowed retail books to begin operations last year. But states with mobile betting on betting apps typically see 90 percent or more of sports wagering activity conducted over online or mobile platforms, and Louisiana will get the jump on the neighboring states of Mississippi and Arkansas, which are still haggling over mobile sports betting rules.
“It’s going to be huge,” Johns told reporter Greg Hilburn of the Lafayette paper. “… Our goal was to have it available before the Super Bowl (on Feb. 13), so we were able to beat that target. It will be ready for this weekend’s NFL conference championship games.”
Early Sign-Up Offers Available In LA
Louisiana gaming officials said in December that they expected a staggered rollout of mobile sports betting in the state, with not all of the platforms going live at once. With each of the state’s 20 casino license holders allowed two “skins”—the industry term for an online bookmaker’s website and accompanying mobile app—as well as the Louisiana Lottery, up to 41 mobile platforms could eventually be OK’d in the state.
As of December, 13 candidates had applied for mobile sports gaming licenses, and each of those candidates was being vetted by state law enforcement. In preparation for the launch, major mobile sportsbook operators are offering promotions for new account holders that include hundreds of dollars in free bets.
Caesars Sportsbook LA is offering an additional $300 upon sign-up, plus extra bonuses worth up to $3,000 when mobile sports betting launches, with use of the promo code “BOOKIESNEW”.
BetMGM Louisiana is offering early sign-ups $200 in free bets, also with the promo code “BOOKIES”. FanDuel Louisiana is offering $100 in free credits to use when mobile sports betting in the state goes live, and DraftKings Louisiana is also giving early sign-ups $100 in free bets upon registration.
