BetMGM Sports Betting App is 11th to go Live in Pennsylvania

BetMGM went live in Pennsylvania on Friday, becoming the 11th online sportsbook in the state. It had received approval from the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board Wednesday and had a 10-hour soft launch a day later.

The launch by BetMGM is in partnership Hollywood Casino Morgantown in Caernavron Township, a “mini-casino” currently under-construction by Penn National Gaming. It is scheduled to open in 2021.

Pennsylvania marks the seventh state in which BetMGM’s mobile app is available statewide — joining Colorado, Indiana, Nevada, New Jersey, Tennessee and West Virginia.

After three days of testing in early December, BetMGM’s online casino offering in Pennsylvania went live on Dec. 4, giving the state its 13th online casino.

“The response to BetMGM Casino in Pennsylvania has been incredible and we’re thrilled to bring our best-in-class sports betting offering to the Keystone State,” Adam Greenblatt, BetMGM chief executive officer, said in a news release. “Pennsylvania is known for its legendary sports fans and we look forward to sharing the excitement of BetMGM with them.”

The official launch comes days after Pennsylvania released the state’s November sports betting figures, with mobile betting comprising 91% of the market. November’s online sports betting handle of $447.4 million was down 5.3% from October’s $472.3 million.

The overall handle of $491.9 million in November was also down from October’s record of $525 million. But revenue in November set a state record at $37.4 million.

Taking Advantage of Steelers Partnership

BetMGM and the Pittsburgh Steelers announced a partnership on Nov. 24, when the Steelers were still undefeated at 10-0.

With NFL betting driving handle in most states, BetMGM has partnerships with six NFL teams: Steelers, Las Vegas Raiders, New York Jets, Detroit Lions, Denver Broncos and Tennessee Titans.

With the Steelers one of the top AFC teams, Super Bowl betting — if Pittsburgh advances that far — would be huge in Pennsylvania.

New BetMGM customers in Pennsylvania will receive a 100% deposit bonus up to $500 as part of a special launch promo.
