NFL legend Aaron Rodgers’ 2026 outlook is one of the messiest QB storylines on the board. Rodgers has spoken with new Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike McCarthy, and McCarthy has publicly said he’d be open to Rodgers returning to the Steelers as their QB1, which keeps the Pittsburgh option very open. But some credible reports suggest a return to Pittsburgh is far from certain and could even be unlikely, which puts “retirement or elsewhere” firmly in play.

Retire / No NFL Team (+165)

Rodgers, 42, is the oldest player in the NFL. He is coming off of a solid season for the Steelers, with 3,322 passing yards, 24 touchdowns and seven interceptions as Pittsburgh went 10-7 and won the AFC North. But he is getting up there in age, in a league where youth and speed are so important. That makes retirement a very real option for the legend after 21 NFL seasons.

Pittsburgh Steelers (+235)

Rodgers signed as a free agent with Pittsburgh last year, and he led the Steelers to the playoffs, though he had the fewest passing yards of any full season in his career. The team was bounced in the first round of the postseason, but it was still a successful year for Rodgers. Mike Tomlin left the team after 19 seasons as head coach and the Steelers hired new HC Mike McCarthy, who was the head coach with the Green Bay Packers when Rodgers had his peak seasons. If Rodgers plays again, the Steelers make far and away the most sense in 2026. At Caesars Sportsbook, the Steelers have +6000 odds to win Super Bowl 61 in February 2027.

Minnesota Vikings (+800)

The Minnesota Vikings were considered one of the finalists to sign Rodgers last year before he went to the Steelers. JJ McCarthy had a terrible rookie season for the Vikings in 2025-26, so Minnesota plans to bring in in a veteran QB to compete with him for the starting job. There are rumors that the Vikings might sign Kirk Cousins for a second stint, but Rodgers is the better quarterback and would be a better signing if he plays another season.

Miami Dolphins (+1150)

The Miami Dolphins are likely going to cut or trade longtime starter Tua Tagovailoa, so they will be in the market for a new QB. If that’s indeed the case, then Rodgers would be a fine replacement for Tagovailoa, plus Miami would be a great city to live in for his final NFL season. New York Giants (+1900)

The New York Giants hired HC John Harbaugh to be their new leader, meaning the playoffs are expected of the team next year. They have young QB Jaxson Dart installed as their starter, but he lacks experience. If Harbaugh thinks Dart would be better off learning from a veteran, then Rodgers, one of the best starting quarterbacks in NFL history in his prime, could be the short-term answer.

Arizona Cardinals (+3200)

Rumors are going around that the Arizona Cardinals might release starting QB Kyler Murray and deal backup Jacoby Brissett at the height of his trade value. If that happens, then the Cardinals will need a new quarterback.

The Field (+1900)

Rodgers had a comeback season last year for the Steelers after two rough years with the Jets. The Field (any team not listed above) is an option for Rodgers, though less likely than a return to Pittsburgh.
